                <text>Objectives: The aim of this study was to provide baseline data for the assessment of exposure to indium and to prevent adverse health effects among workers engaged in the electronics and related industries in Republic of Korea.&#13;
Methods: Total (n 1⁄4 369) and respirable (n 1⁄4 384) indium concentrations were monitored using personal air sampling in workers at the following 19 workplaces: six sputtering target manufacturing companies, four manufacturing companies of panel displays, two companies engaged in cleaning of sputtering&#13;
components, two companies dedicated to the cleaning of sputtering target, and five indium recycling companies.&#13;
Results: The level of exposure to total indium ranged from 0.9 to 609.3 mg/m3 for the sputtering target companies; from 0.2 to 2,782.0 mg/m3 for the panel display companies and from 0.5 to 2,089.9 mg/m3 for the indium recycling companies. The level of exposure to respirable indium was in the range of 0.02 to&#13;
448.6 mg/m3 for the sputtering target companies; 0.01 to 419.5 mg/m3 for the panel display companies; and 0.5 to 436.3 mg/m3 for the indium recycling companies. The indium recycling companies had the most samples exceeding the exposure standard for indium, followed by sputtering target companies and panel display companies. &#13;
Conclusions: The main finding from this exposure assessment is that many workers who handle indium compounds in the electronics industry are exposed to indium levels that exceed the exposure standards for indium. Hence, it is necessary to continuously monitor the indium exposure of this workforce and take measures to reduce its exposure levels.</text>

                <text>Background: Correctional officers (COs) experience elevated rates of mental and physical ill-health as compared with other general industry and public safety occupations. The purpose of this study was to investigate demographic, mental health, job tenure, and workefamily characteristics and their prospective association to burnout within and between jail officers during one year of new employment. &#13;
Methods: In 2016, newly hired jail officers (N 1⁄4 144) completed self-reported surveys across four time points in a one-year prospective study at a Midwestern United States urban jail. Linear mixed-effects and growth modeling examined how workefamily conflict (W-FC) and depressive symptoms relate to perceptions of burnout over time.&#13;
Results: Jail officer burnout increased and was related to rises in W-FC and depression symptoms. Within-person variance for W-FC (Bpooled 1⁄4 .52, p &lt; .001) and depression symptoms (Bpooled 1⁄4 .06, p &lt; .01) were significant predictors of burnout. Less time on the job remained a significant predictor of burnout across all analyses (Bpooled 1⁄4 .03, p &lt; .001). &#13;
Conclusions: Results from this study indicate that burnout increased during the first year of new employment; and increased W-FC, higher depression, and brief tenure were associated with burnout&#13;
among jail COs. Future study of correctional workplace health is needed to identify tailored, multilevel interventions that address burnout and W-FC prevention and early intervention among COs.</text>

                <text>Background: A number of accidents have occurred in small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Efforts in&#13;
reducing accidents have been undertaken through the implementation of safety behaviors. Unfortu-&#13;
nately, few studies have examined motives behind unsafe behaviors, such as safety silence motives. This study aimed to observe the motives underlying safety behaviors, namely safety silence motive (SSM) (SSM-relation, SSM-climate, SSM-issue, and SSM-job) and to evaluate the effect of SSM and safety communication on safety participation in different industrial sectors and scales.&#13;
Materials and Methods: Eighty workers from two industrial sectors and scales of SMEs were involved.&#13;
They were instructed to fill out a set of questionnaires. A five-Likert scale was used to respond. An independent t test was applied to find any significant differences. The partial least square-structural equation modeling for multigroup was used to develop a model on relations among the variables.&#13;
Results: The results showed that SSM scores were high in SMEs, and the scores were different across&#13;
industrial sectors and scales. SSM had a negative influence on safety communication, and safety&#13;
communication positively influenced safety participation.&#13;
Conclusion: The study of SSM, safety communication, and safety participation in different sectors and scales should be separated in SMEs.</text>

                <text>Background: In this study, the association of work and demographic characteristics with different traffic offenses committed by food delivery riders in Greece was examined. Previous research has identified various factors related to risky driving however, there is a need for exploring the complex interrelationship of work-related factors underlying risky driving behavior.&#13;
Materials and Methods: A 2-items uestionnaire was used exploring delivery riders demographic char-&#13;
acteristics, terms of employment, issues of concern during work and type of traffic offenses committed.&#13;
In total, uestionnaires were analyzed using logistic regression in order to identify characteristics inde-&#13;
pendently associated with serious traffic offenses, namely, red-light running and helmet non-use.&#13;
Results: The analysis showed that: (i) typical health and safety measures had no effect on serious traffic&#13;
offenses, (ii) young age was related to both offenses however (iii) different sets of work conditions were&#13;
associated with reports of red-light running (i.e. low work experience, use of personal vehicle for work,&#13;
and payment by hour) and helmet non-use respectively (i.e. intense work pace, high tip income per day and low concern about vehicle condition).&#13;
Conclusion: The above findings provide evidence that serious traffic offenses are manifestations of underlying conflict experienced by the riders between safety and various performance criteria. Each one of the two offenses is related to different rider profiles aiming to satisfy different goals, namely, those mainly trying to maximize profit non-helmet users and those, mostly inexperienced ones, trying to cope with work pressure red light runners. Potential regulatory measures to alleviate risky practices are discussed.</text>

                <text>Background: In the mining industry, various methods of accident analysis have utilized official accident investigations to try and establish broader causation mechanisms. An emerging area of interest is identifying the extent to which cultural influences, such as safety culture, are acting as drivers in the&#13;
reoccurrence of accidents. Thus, the overall objective of this study was to analyze occupational health and safety (OHS) reports in mining to investigate if/how safety culture has historically been framed in the mining industry, as it relates to accident causation.&#13;
Methods: Using a computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software, 34 definitions of safety culture were analyzed to highlight key terms. Based on word count and contextual relevance, 26 key terms were captured. Ten OHS reports were then analyzed via an inductive thematic analysis, using the key terms. This analysis provided a concept map representing the 50-year data set and facilitated the use of text framing to highlight safety culture in the selected OHS mining reports.&#13;
Results: Overall, 954 references and six themes, safety culture, attitude, competence, belief, patterns, and norms, were identified in the data set. Of the 26 key terms originally identified, 24 of them were captured within the text. The results made evident two distinct frames in which to interpret the data: the role of the individual and the role of the organization, in safety culture.&#13;
Conclusion: Unless efforts are made to understand and alter cultural drivers and share these findings&#13;
within and across industries, the same accidents are likely to continue to occur.</text>

                <text>Background: Toluene diisocyanate (TDI) is a highly reactive chemical that causes sensitization and has&#13;
also been associated with increased lung cancer. A risk assessment was conducted based on occupational epidemiologic estimates for several health outcomes.&#13;
Methods: Exposure and outcome details were extracted from published studies and a NIOSH Health Hazard Evaluation for new onset asthma, pulmonary function measurements, symptom prevalence, and mortality from lung cancer and respiratory disease. Summary exposureeresponse estimates were calculated taking into account relative precision and possible survivor selection effects. Attributable incidence of sensitization was estimated as were annual proportional losses of pulmonary function. Excess lifetime risks and benchmark doses were calculated.&#13;
Results: Respiratory outcomes exhibited strong survivor bias. Asthma/sensitization exposure response decreased with increasing facility-average TDI air concentration as did TDI-associated pulmonary impairment. In a mortality cohort where mean employment duration was less than 1 year, survivor bias pre-empted estimation of lung cancer and respiratory disease exposure response.&#13;
Conclusion: Controlling for survivor bias and assuming a linear doseeresponse with facility-average TDI concentrations, excess lifetime risks exceeding one per thousand occurred at about 2 ppt TDI for sensitization and respiratory impairment. Under alternate assumptions regarding stationary and cumulative effects, one per thousand excess risks were estimated at TDI concentrations of 10 e 30 ppt. The unexplained reported excess mortality from lung cancer and other lung diseases, if attributable to TDI or associated emissions, could represent a lifetime risk comparable to that of sensitization. </text>

                <text>Introduction: Workplace violence (WPV) is a major occupational and health hazard for nurses. It affects&#13;
nurses’ physical and psychological well-being and impacts health service delivery. We aimed to assess&#13;
the prevalence and describe the consequences of WPV experienced by nurses working in an emergency department in Kenya.&#13;
Methods: We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study among emergency nurses at one of the largest tertiary hospitals in Kenya. We collected data using a structured questionnaire adapted from the ‘WPV in the Health Sector, Country Case Studies Research Instruments’ questionnaire. We described the prevalence and effects of WPV using frequencies and percentages.&#13;
Results: Of the 82 participating nurses, 64.6% were female, 57.3% were married and 65.8% were college-educated (65.8%). Participants’ mean age was 33.8 years (standard deviation: 6.8 years, range: 23-55). The overall lifetime prevalence of WPV was 81.7% (n 1⁄4 67, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 71.6%-88.8%) and the 1-year prevalence was 73.2% (n 1⁄4 63, 95% CI: 66.3-84.8%). The main WPV included verbal abuse, physical violence, and sexual harassment. Most incidents were perpetrated by patients and their relatives. No action was taken in 50% of the incidents, but 57.1% of physical violence incidents were reported to the hospital security and 28.6% to supervisors. Perpetrators of physical violence were verbally warned (42.9%) and reported to the hospital security (28.6%).&#13;
Conclusion: Workplace violence is a significant problem affecting emergency nurses in Kenya. Hospitals should promote workplace safety with zero-tolerance to violence. Nurses should be sensitised on WPV to mitigate violence and supported when they experience WPV.</text>

                <text>This brief report aims to establish the keyword content of studies on occupational health and safety -the key framework of the world of work in the trade and health domain. Data were collected from the SCOPUS database, focusing on articles on occupational health and safety and related keywords, with an emphasis on abstracts and titles. Data were analyzed and summarized based on keywords included from the MeSH database. There were 24,499 manuscripts in the domain and 1,346 (5.40%) occupational health-related keywords, including those that overlapped. The most frequently referenced occupational healtherelated keyword was “occupational health” (452 articles), followed by “occupational safety” (141 articles). There were fewer keywords on occupational health in the trade and health literature. As the world of work has been prioritized because of the recent new normal of work life since the COVID-19&#13;
pandemic, examining the focus of occupational health priorities within the global perspective is crucial. </text>
