                <text>Introduction: Workplace violence (WPV) is a major occupational and health hazard for nurses. It affects&#13;
nurses’ physical and psychological well-being and impacts health service delivery. We aimed to assess&#13;
the prevalence and describe the consequences of WPV experienced by nurses working in an emergency department in Kenya.&#13;
Methods: We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study among emergency nurses at one of the largest tertiary hospitals in Kenya. We collected data using a structured questionnaire adapted from the ‘WPV in the Health Sector, Country Case Studies Research Instruments’ questionnaire. We described the prevalence and effects of WPV using frequencies and percentages.&#13;
Results: Of the 82 participating nurses, 64.6% were female, 57.3% were married and 65.8% were college-educated (65.8%). Participants’ mean age was 33.8 years (standard deviation: 6.8 years, range: 23-55). The overall lifetime prevalence of WPV was 81.7% (n 1⁄4 67, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 71.6%-88.8%) and the 1-year prevalence was 73.2% (n 1⁄4 63, 95% CI: 66.3-84.8%). The main WPV included verbal abuse, physical violence, and sexual harassment. Most incidents were perpetrated by patients and their relatives. No action was taken in 50% of the incidents, but 57.1% of physical violence incidents were reported to the hospital security and 28.6% to supervisors. Perpetrators of physical violence were verbally warned (42.9%) and reported to the hospital security (28.6%).&#13;
Conclusion: Workplace violence is a significant problem affecting emergency nurses in Kenya. Hospitals should promote workplace safety with zero-tolerance to violence. Nurses should be sensitised on WPV to mitigate violence and supported when they experience WPV.</text>

                <text>Background: In the mining industry, various methods of accident analysis have utilized official accident investigations to try and establish broader causation mechanisms. An emerging area of interest is identifying the extent to which cultural influences, such as safety culture, are acting as drivers in the&#13;
reoccurrence of accidents. Thus, the overall objective of this study was to analyze occupational health and safety (OHS) reports in mining to investigate if/how safety culture has historically been framed in the mining industry, as it relates to accident causation.&#13;
Methods: Using a computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software, 34 definitions of safety culture were analyzed to highlight key terms. Based on word count and contextual relevance, 26 key terms were captured. Ten OHS reports were then analyzed via an inductive thematic analysis, using the key terms. This analysis provided a concept map representing the 50-year data set and facilitated the use of text framing to highlight safety culture in the selected OHS mining reports.&#13;
Results: Overall, 954 references and six themes, safety culture, attitude, competence, belief, patterns, and norms, were identified in the data set. Of the 26 key terms originally identified, 24 of them were captured within the text. The results made evident two distinct frames in which to interpret the data: the role of the individual and the role of the organization, in safety culture.&#13;
Conclusion: Unless efforts are made to understand and alter cultural drivers and share these findings&#13;
within and across industries, the same accidents are likely to continue to occur.</text>

                <text>Background: Occupational health and safety (OHS) is a significant interest of all governments to prevent workplace hazards. Although appropriate legislation and regulations are essentials for the protection of workers, they are solely not enough. Application of them in practice should be secured by an efficient inspection system. Fundamental components of an inspection system are inspectors and their audit tasks. Maintaining the fair balanced task assignment among inspectors strictly enhances the efficiency of the overall system.&#13;
Methods: This study proposes a two-phased goal programming approach for OHS inspectors' task as-&#13;
signments and presents a case study.&#13;
Results: The solution approach gives the balanced assignment of inspectors to the workplaces in&#13;
different cities of the country in the planning period. The obtained schedule takes into account the&#13;
distances covered by the work places and the number of the workplaces' employees to be audited and pays attention to the human factors by considering the preferences of the inspectors. The comparisons between the obtained optimal schedule and the implemented one that is produced manually show that the approach not only maintains the technical requirements of the problem, but also provides social and physical balance to the task assignment.&#13;
Conclusion: Both the approach and the application study are expected to offer fruitful inspirations in the area of safety management and policy and they provide a good guide for social policy and organizational aspects in the field of OHS inspectors' task assignment.</text>

                <text>Background: Hearing protection devices (HPDs) are often used in the workplace to prevent hearing&#13;
damage caused by noise. However, a factor that can lead to hearing loss in the workplace is improper&#13;
HPD fitting, and the previous literature has shown that instructing workers on how to properly insert&#13;
their HPDs can make a significant difference in the degree of attenuation.&#13;
Methods: Two studies were completed on a total of 33 Hydro One workers. A FitCheck Solo field&#13;
attenuation estimation system was used to measure the personal attenuation rating (PAR) before and&#13;
after providing one-on-one fitting instructions. In addition, external ear canal diameters were measured, and a questionnaire with items related to frequency of use, confidence, and discomfort was administered.&#13;
Results: Training led to an improvement in HPD attenuation, particularly for participants with poorer PARs before training. The questionnaire results indicated that much HPD discomfort is caused by heat, humidity, and communication difficulties. External ear canal asymmetry did not appear to significantly influence the measured PAR.&#13;
Conclusion: In accordance with the previous literature, our studies suggest that one-on-one instruction is an effective training method for HPD use. Addressing discomfort issues from heat, humidity, and communication issues could help to improve the use of HPDs in the workplace. Further research into the effects of canal asymmetry on the PAR is needed.</text>

                <text>Background: Noise-induced hearing loss is a well-known occupational disease that affects many fish&#13;
harvesters from many fisheries worldwide, whose risk factor is prolonged exposure to hazardous noise&#13;
levels. To date, academic research activities and regulatory bodies have not provided any comparative analysis among the existing methods to assess noise exposure levels of fish harvesters. This paper provides a comparison of four relevant assessment methods of noise exposure, examining the results of a measurement campaign performed onboard small fishing vessels from Newfoundland and Labrador.&#13;
Methods: We traveled onboard 11 vessels engaged in multiple fisheries from Newfoundland and Lab-&#13;
rador and performed extensive noise exposure surveys using the simplified International Maritime Organization method, the full-day measurement method, and the two methods provided by ISO 9612:2009, the task-based method and job-based method (JBM).&#13;
Results: The results showed that the four methods yield similar values when the noise components are&#13;
dominated by the engine and auxiliaries (steady-state sources); when noise components are dominated by the fishing gear, task-based method and the simplified International Maritime Organization method estimates are less accurate than JBM, using full-day measurements as baseline.&#13;
Conclusion: The JBM better assesses noise exposure in small-scale fisheries, where noise exposure has significant variance and uncertainties on the exposure levels are higher.</text>

                <text>Objectives: The aim of this study was to provide baseline data for the assessment of exposure to indium and to prevent adverse health effects among workers engaged in the electronics and related industries in Republic of Korea.&#13;
Methods: Total (n 1⁄4 369) and respirable (n 1⁄4 384) indium concentrations were monitored using personal air sampling in workers at the following 19 workplaces: six sputtering target manufacturing companies, four manufacturing companies of panel displays, two companies engaged in cleaning of sputtering&#13;
components, two companies dedicated to the cleaning of sputtering target, and five indium recycling companies.&#13;
Results: The level of exposure to total indium ranged from 0.9 to 609.3 mg/m3 for the sputtering target companies; from 0.2 to 2,782.0 mg/m3 for the panel display companies and from 0.5 to 2,089.9 mg/m3 for the indium recycling companies. The level of exposure to respirable indium was in the range of 0.02 to&#13;
448.6 mg/m3 for the sputtering target companies; 0.01 to 419.5 mg/m3 for the panel display companies; and 0.5 to 436.3 mg/m3 for the indium recycling companies. The indium recycling companies had the most samples exceeding the exposure standard for indium, followed by sputtering target companies and panel display companies. &#13;
Conclusions: The main finding from this exposure assessment is that many workers who handle indium compounds in the electronics industry are exposed to indium levels that exceed the exposure standards for indium. Hence, it is necessary to continuously monitor the indium exposure of this workforce and take measures to reduce its exposure levels.</text>

                <text>Background: A well-designed shift schedule has been reported to have a positive effect on improving health problems associated with shift work. This study aimed to identify compliance with the 17 recommendations on work schedule (WSRs) for shift nurses and related factors.&#13;
Methods: The descriptive study was conducted with 182 nurses who worked in three shifts for more&#13;
than 1 year at superior general and general hospitals in three regions. Data were collected with self-administered questionnaire and 13-week work schedule tables, and analyzed with both person- and&#13;
cycle-based compliance.&#13;
Results: Person-based compliance was 11.77 among 17 items in total. However, no one completely&#13;
complied with WSRs of “no work on weekends” and which showed the lowest cycle-based compliance&#13;
(22.3%). Compliance with some WSRs was related to hospital type, proportion of nurses in school and&#13;
having standards on work schedule at institutional level.&#13;
Conclusion: Compliance with WSRs of shift nurses in Korea is still unsatisfactory, and one day off after&#13;
night shift and work on weekend are quite common. Hospitals should keep the standards on work schedule, monitor compliance with standards, and try to introduce modified shift systems to improve the current problems.</text>

The tests were performed on a Dionex IonPacAS22 analytic column (250  4 mm, 6 mm) with AG22 precolumn (50  4 mm 11 mm).&#13;
Results: The method provides for potassium bromate(V) determination within the concentration range of 0.043 O 0.88 mg/m3 for an air sample of 0.72 m3 in volume, i.e., 0.1e2 times the exposure limit value as proposed in Poland. The method was validated in accordance with PN-EN 482. The obtained validation data are as follows: measuring range: 3.1e63.4 mg/mL, limit of detection (LOD) 1⁄4 0.018 mg/mL and limit of quantification (LOQ) 1⁄4 0.053 mg/mL. The developed method has been tested in the work environment, on laboratory employees having contact with potassium bromate(V).&#13;
Conclusion: The analytical method allowed the determination of the inhalable fraction of airborne potassium bromate(V) at workplaces and can be used to assess occupational exposure.</text>

                <text>Introduction: We evaluated depression and anxiety in service and sales workers from Korea who&#13;
interacted with angry clients to identify factors that mediated and moderated depression and anxiety in&#13;
these workers.&#13;
Methods: This was a secondary analysis of data from the fifth Korean Working Conditions Survey conducted in 2017. A structural equation model was used for mediation and moderation analysis.&#13;
Results: Service and sales workers who had more interactions with angry clients had increased risk for depression and anxiety. Experiencing clients’ adverse behaviors (acute episodes) mediated the relationship between interacting with angry clients (a chronic situation) on depression and anxiety. Job&#13;
satisfaction and managers’ support moderated the relationship between interacting with angry clients&#13;
and mental health problems.&#13;
Conclusion: We suggest that employers of service and sales workers should recruit staff based on their&#13;
aptitude for such work, thus ensuring job satisfaction, and train them to deal with angry clients in such a way that they experience less emotional burden. Employers should also make bylaws requiring managers to directly take care of adverse social behavior by clients. Furthermore, a sociocultural campaign to prevent adverse social behavior by clients is also needed.</text>
