<text>Introduction: Due to the growing interest in health and productivity
management, an increasing number of companies have adopted the
“pursuit of well-being” or “maintenance and promotion of health” of
employees as their management philosophy (MP). We examined the
association between adaptation to MP and refraining from seeking
medical care (RSMC) among Japanese employees in a single company
following the MP of “pursuit of employees’ well-being”.
Material and methods: We surveyed 2,797 employees (2,064 men
and 733 women) from two factories of a Japanese manufacturing
company following the MP of “pursuit of employees’ well-being”. We distributed a self-administered questionnaire assessing the adaptation to MP (three items adapted from Wang [2009]) and potential confounders. At one-year follow-up, we measured RSMC with a single question, “In the past year, have you ever refrained from visiting a hospital, clinic, acupuncturist, or dentist despite your sickness (including a slight cold or cavity) or injury?” We conducted multiple logistic regression analyses.
Results: After adjusting for potential confounders, a significant
association emerged between lower adaptation to MP and RSMC
(OR=1.16 [95% CI: 0.93–1.45] and 1.34 [95% CI: 1.04–1.72] for the
middle- and the low-tertile group of adaptation to MP, respectively,
p for linear trend=0.018).
Conclusions: To encourage employees to seek medical care when
they are not feeling well, it is essential for companies to not only
set forth the “pursuit of employees’ well-being or health” as their
MP but also to put that philosophy into practice and to spread it
throughout the company.</text>

<text>Introduction: Occupational health nurse practitioners provide primary health care, counseling and occupational health care including implementation of the hearing conservation program in the workplace as one facet designed to lower the risk of occupational noise-induced hearing loss. Legislation in South Africa has been improved recently and allows occupational health nurse practitioners to carry out occupational legislative requirements to ensure legal compliance at the workplace.
Data analysis: Ethnographic data analysis was guided by the framework outlined by Roper and Shapira (2000). This framework has five iterative steps, which were followed in this study.
Methods: A qualitative, explorative, descriptive study that used
focused ethnography was used.
Discussion: Hearing conservation has become a powerful health
promotion tool for both the employer and an employee to protect
the health of workers at their workplaces. Yet, considering the
often-touted “hierarchy of control” the program assists OHNPs
in obtaining a better approach to their practices in terms of who
must do what; assists in dealing thoroughly with the risks in the
work environment hence the hierarchy of controls has been used
as a means of determining how to implement feasible and effective
control solutions.
Results: Five occupational health clinics were identified, ten
participants consented to participate in the study.
Conclusion: Findings concluded that occupational health services
are provided in the workplace to address the health care needs of
employees and have been identified as an important component to
ensure the welfare of those in employment.</text>

This is a survey study using a five rating scale questionnaire to collect data. The sample size was 79 and selected by simple random sampling. The data analyzed by frequencies, percentage (%) mean ± standard deviation (SD) and compare mean difference between two groups by t-test. The research results were as follows: (1) the efficiency of working from home during COVID-19 pandemic: case study on Institute of Preventive Medicine and Division of Occupational and Environmental Diseases were revealed that efficiency of working at home as same as working at the office. (2) There were no effects on health such as headache, muscle pain at shoulder area and no any change on eye sight also the quality of sleep still the same. In case of mental effects, the results shown that emotion of happiness, relaxing and feeling fresh after sleep were better than working at the office. However, the feeling of dexterous and interesting of life were decreased. (3) There were significant statistical differences on the comparison of an efficiency of working from.</text>

<text>Introduction: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) exposures can adversely affect the health of workers and their communities, particularly in animal production, but are unlikely to be captured by compensation claims data outside of clinical occupations. Salmon aquaculture is an important industry in Canada that reports high occupational injury rates linked to exposures to diverse hazards. Aquaculture reports antimicrobial use (AMU), yet AMR is not designated as a biological occupational hazard.
Methods: Occupational claims data from Atlantic Canadian aquaculture were analyzed to describe injury characteristics. Trends in aquaculture AMU and relevant policy were reported to contextualize barriers that prevent surveillance for occupational exposures to AMR factors.
Results: Injured workers most frequently reported injuries attributed
to physical and ergonomic hazards leading to soft tissue damage and
open and superficial wounds to the back, legs, and fingers. AMR
designation as an occupational hazard is hindered at three distinct
levels: i) Surveillance program for AMR emergence in aquaculture
is absent. ii) Latent onset of symptoms linked to occupational AMR
exposures mitigate against related compensation claims. iii) Data
reporting gaps impede correlative analyses of AMU and clinical AMR.
Conclusions: AMR surveillance requires an iterative and One Health approach. Currently, occupational claims data facilitate only retrospective analyses biased towards observable physical injuries
with clear occupational origins. Surveillance requires a paradigm
shift that promotes prospective analyses to guide health protective
strategies.</text>

<text>Introduction: Although inhalation accidents are important occupational cause of preventable lung injuries, little is known about their cause and epidemiology. This study aimed to investigate changes in the incidence of medically reported occupational inhalation accidents and their potential causes over time in the UK.
Methods: Data on incident cases of occupational inhalation accidents
reported to SWORD surveillance scheme between 1999 and 2018
(inclusive) were extracted and analysed in groups of four 5-year time periods. Descriptive analyses of causative exposure, occupation and industrial sectors were conducted and incidence rates were estimated.
Results: A total of 172 cases were reported. The average annual incidence rate (1999–2018) was 0.9 cases/million employed, with
estimates falling from 1.7/million employed in 1999–2003 to 0.5 in
2014–2018. Cases were reported most frequently from the public
administration and defence sector (13%), followed by the medical
sector (9%), with domestic cleaners (4%) and fire service officers (4%)
the most frequently reported occupations. Certain historic causative
exposures (e.g. smoke inhalation) were no longer reported by the end
of the study period, while many known causes (e.g. cleaning agents)
were persistently linked to reported cases over the study period.
Conclusions: Whilst the incidence of inhalation accidents appears
to have fallen, certain established causative exposures appear to be persistently linked to reported cases. Awareness of current causative exposures is necessary in order to define evidence-based interventions to reduce their occurrence.</text>

<text>Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has gone through several phases, worldwide. Italy, before all the other countries, was characterized by a first serious phase, especially in residential healthcare facilities, which host fragile and vulnerable patients. This study aims to evaluate the response capacity of these structures to the SARS-COV-2 emergency, in Sulmona, Italy, a small reality in the Italian province with a higher life expectancy.
Material and Methods: From March to December 2020, we analyzed
the healthcare facilities management models, through drafted checklists oriented to 3 macro-items: work organization, risk management, and occupational health and safety, and in a second phase we checked these measures. We verified the epidemic trend through the direct screening for SARS-COV-2 in operators and patients.
Results: 18 facilities (100%) responded by filling in the checklist; adherence to COVID-19 emergency measures was analyzed. The
average time to return the questionnaires was 5.11 days. 478 patients
and 238 operators were screened for SARS-COV-2. All tested negative
for SARS-COV-2; On that occasion, the described measures in the
checklists were verified. No epidemic outbreaks were recorded in the wards, but a facility was affected by a cluster among the kitchen operators.
Conclusions: the examined facilities showed a good response to the regulatory constraints for the SARS-COV-2 emergency. This study shows the importance of a prevention management model, shared with the control authorities, also in the case of other future pandemics, for the containment of viral spread within healthcare facilities.</text>

<text>Introduction: The wide use of low intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) suggests the need to better understand the related biological effects. We investigated the mechanical stress produced by 1 MHz LIPUS in human keratinocytes in terms of deregulation of the inflammatory cytokines IL-6, cell viability and membrane permeability. DNA damage was also tested to evaluate clastogenic and aneugenic LIPUS-induced genomic damage.
Materials and Methods: In vitro exposure at 1 MHz LIPUS (10% duty
cycle and pulses of 300 s) were performed on HaCaT cell line at varying Intensity (Ispta <100 mW/cm2) and exposure time up to 1 hour. Pro-inflammatory cytokines and activation of nuclear factor-B (NF-
B) were detected by real-time qPCR, ELISA and immunofluorescence
assays. Related effects on plasma membrane, cell cycle distribution
and apoptosis were also evaluated through confocal microscopy,
flow cytometry and by following the gene expression of Bax/Bcl-
2. Finally, cytokinesis-blocked BN cell preparations and CREST
immunofluorescence staining were performed.
Results: Our results pointed out that 1 hour exposure of 1 MHz
LIPUS (Ispta 65 mW/cm2) promotes both significant IL-6 gene overexpression and protein secretion which is associated with the
activation of NF-B. We also found concomitant effects on membrane
permeability and cell viability. Micronucleus test evidenced no
clastogenic damage at any dose tested and a significant induction of
aneugenic damage only with the highest dose employed probably
due to the perturbation of the mitotic apparatus.

<text>Introduction: The EU Strategic Framework sets out requirements in the field of training and education: social dialogue, awareness raising, law enforcement. EU funds and the European Employment and Social Innovation Program support occupational health training.
Materials and methods: To study the knowledge and the skills of the
workers to protect and strengthen health in the work environment
and the effective recovery, there was conducted a questionnaire and a documentary survey of 364 workers and 40 employers and officials in health and safety at work in economic activities related to administrative services, production incl. construction and retail outlets for the period 2017–2019. An assessment of the level of awareness about the risks of health damage, an assessment of training and ability to work was performed. An analysis of the psychological attitude towards these trainings by employers and employees was made.
Results: The study found reliable information about the knowledge
of employees about the risks of their own workplace, the compliance
with the rules of safe work, the study of legislation harmonized with
European laws, the company policy in occupational medicine, incl.
training methods and educational levels.
Conclusions: The facts and the data obtained point to the need to update the legislation to include new requirements for the functioning, the disabilities and the health of the workers, to objectify the relationship “working conditions – health – ability to work.”</text>

<text>Introduction/Aim: Occupational exposures can accelerate age-related lung function decline. Some population-based longitudinal studies have investigated this association. However, the evidence has not been systematically synthesized.
Methods: Ovid Medline, PubMed, Embase via Ovid, and Web of Science were searched using keywords and text words related to occupational exposure and lung function and 12 studies identified using pre-defined inclusion criteria. The quality of the studies was assessed and fixed and random-effect meta-analysis including four studies performed. The heterogeneity was assessed using the I2 test, and publication bias was evaluated using funnel plots. The review was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42020154227).
Results: Ever exposure to gases/fumes and vapours, gas, dust or fumes (VGDF) was associated with FEV1 decline. Ever exposure to fungicides and aromatic solvents was associated with lung function decline (FEV1). No significant association was observed between exposures to biological dust, mineral dust, herbicides, insecticides, and metals. Cumulative exposure to gases/fumes and fungicides was found to be associated with lung function in most of the studies. However, this was not included in the meta-analysis, due to inconsistent reporting of the outcomes across the studies.
Conclusion: Pooled estimates from population-based studies have provided evidence that several occupational exposures were associated with lung function decline. Both exposure controls in relevant jobs and respiratory health surveillance are required to protect the lung health of workers in these industries.</text>

<text>Introduction: Organic solvents(OS), widely used in industry, expose workers to a proven neurotoxic risk including peripheral peuropathies(PN). Our objective was to study the clinical, para-
clinical and etiological characteristics of Toxic neuropathies related
to occupational exposure to OS.
Methods: Descriptive retrospective study involving 12 cases of PN due to OS who consulted the department of occupational medicine in Rabta Hospital Tunis, between 2000 and 2021.
Results: Our series included 12 patients with male predominance
(9 cases) and a mean age of 41±10 years. The main work stations
described were those exposing to glue (4 cases). The chemical
industry sector was the most concerned sector (5 cases), followed
by the shoe manufacturing sector (2 cases). The use of respiratory
protection equipment was reported by only 2 patients. Neurological
manifestations appeared on average 17.7 years after hiring. We reported 7 cases of PN of the lower and/or upper limbs and 5 cases
of trigeminal neuritis. An organic psychosyndrom to solvents was
associated in 5 patients. The incriminated OS were hexane (6 cases),
hexane with tetrachloroethane (1 case) and trichloroethylene.
Eleven patients benefited from a transfer to another workstation
not exposing to OS vapors while one patient benefited from an early
retirement. All cases were reported as compensable occupational
diseases.
Conclusion: Toxic PN related to OS are not very frequent but still
disabling conditions. Prevention must involve the substitution of OS
which have significant neurotoxic potential and reinforcement of
early detection of these neuropathies.</text>
