<text>Background: Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture (HSOPSC) is considered one of the
most scientifically rigorous tools available with excellent psychometric properties. However, it
is not yet available in an Indonesian version.
Objective: This study aimed to determine the validity of the content and psychometric
properties of HSOPSC 2.0 for use in Indonesian hospitals.
Methods: The study was divided into three stages: translation, adaptation, and validation.
Culture-adaptation was assessed using cognitive interviews with ten direct care nurses who
worked in the hospital to evaluate their perceptions and the coherence of the translated items,
response categories, and questionnaire directions. Content validity was also done by ten
experts from academic and clinical settings. Finally, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and
reliability testing were conducted among 220 nurses from two Indonesian hospitals.
Results: The cognitive test results indicated that the language clarity was 87.8 % and 84.5%
for cultural relevance. The Content Validity Index (CVI) ranged between 0.73 to 1.00, while the
construct validity results indicated that each factor had factor loadings above 0.4, from 0.47 to
0.65. The fit indices showed an acceptable fit for the data provided by the 10-factor model,
with RMSEA = 0.052, SRMR = 0.089, and CFI = 0.87. The Pearson correlation coefficients
between the ten subscales ranged from 0.276 to 0.579 (p < 0.05). The Cronbach’s alpha for
all sub-scales was more than 0.70, except for organizational learning – continuous
improvement, response to error, and communication openness.
Conclusion: This study offers initial evidence of the psychometric properties of the
Indonesian-HSOPSC 2.0. Future studies are needed to examine its psychometric features to
improve generalizability. However, nurses and other healthcare professionals could use the
tool to measure hospital patient safety culture in Indonesia.

<text>Introduction: In several studies it was described that ineffective communication during patient handover between
the hospital departments or during shift-to-shift transfer result in discontinuity of care, inappropriate treatment, and
potential risks of injury for patients. The patient handover is a professional responsibility and accountability related
to nursing care. SBAR (Situation - Background - Assessment – Recommendation) method as part of the international patient safety goals(IPSGs) was developed to improve communication breakdown. Knowledge and attitude are
essential factors associated with the implementation of patient handover, yet limited research was done on this.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between nurse knowledge and attitude toward a patient
handover. Methods: A cross-sectional approach was applied in this study. A total of 61 nurses consisting of the head
nurse, and team leaders participated in sampling technique done by simple random sampling method from the
hospital database. Data collection used a structured questionnaire with a good result of validity and reliability. Univariate and bivariate test were used for data analyzing with Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) Version
18. Results: There is a relationship between nurses’ knowledge and attitude toward patient handover with OR 5.280
(1.063-26.227); OR 5.333 (1.351-21.062), respectively and statistically significant (p<0.000). Conclusion: Handover
is a dynamic process and impacts directly on patient care. Increasing nurse knowledge and attitude are essential to
enhance the implementation of patient handover. Training, seminar and intensive practice are strongly needed to
build the culture of patient safety.</text>

<text>Patient safety is crucial for health care quality and is one of the major
parameters monitored by all health care organizations around the world. Nurses play a
critical role in improving the quality of care and patient safety because they take care of
patients for the full 24 hours and engage with families and other health professionals.
Thus, this study aimed to identify patient safety culture and its associated factors
among nurses in Karawang, Indonesia. This study was conducted using a crosssectional design. It was estimated that 220 participants would be needed to have
confidence in the results at a medium-effect size. A convenience sampling technique
was applied to select participants. This study used the Hospital Survey on Patient
Safety Culture questionnaire. Linear regression analyses were used to investigate
the factors associated with patient safety culture. Most of the nurses (52.79%) had a
nursing diploma and 7% had been married. Approximately 70% were nurses at the level
1 to 3 range. The mean score was 3.05 (SD = 1.43). The highest domains score was
teamwork (4.03, SD = 1.76), and the lowest score was reporting patients’ safety events
(2.21, SD = 1.43). Gender, education level, and working unit contributed significantly to
the variance in patient safety culture and the R-squared was 28.8%. This study found
that patient safety culture among nurses was moderate. Therefore, in order to improve
patient safety, a training program for nurses is needed alongside strategies to improve
professional communication</text>
