                <text>This study explored the social repercussions of preadolescents’ mobile device use within the&#13;
family context by testing two opposing predictions regarding the impact of technology on the quality of interpersonal relationships. Specifically, we examined whether smartphone and tablet use was positively related to preadolescents’ self-disclosure to their parents and/or dis�placed family time, which we hypothesized to be related to children’s satisfaction with family life. Results of a cross-sectional survey (n ¼ 698, 49.6% girls, Mage¼ 10.9, SD ¼ 0.69) provided support for both hypotheses, thus corroborating the presence of at least two diverging pathways that underlie this relationship. Although mobile device use seemed to foster a context that sup�ported children’s self-disclosure to their parents, results also indicated a negative and indirect association through children’s perceived family time. This negative pathway, however, did not&#13;
hold when social use among children and parents (e.g., playing games together online) was considered separately.</text>

                <text>Despite long-standing concerns over self-reported measures of media use, media research has re�lied heavily on self-reported data. This study not only examined discrepancies between survey&#13;
and logged smartphone data but assessed whether correlational outcomes using self-reported&#13;
measures produce greater or smaller effect sizes compared to outcomes using logged measures.&#13;
College students (n ¼ 294) and MTurk workers (n ¼ 291) provided self-reported and logged data of smartphone use over seven days. The correlations we examined involved four psychosocial con�texts, including bridging, bonding, well-being, and  problematic use of smartphones. The results&#13;
showed that the effect sizes of correlations using self-reported data tend to be smaller compared to&#13;
those using logged data. We believe that this is a hopeful message to the field. This could mean&#13;
that extant survey results have not erroneously inflated communication findings and that communication researchers still have a lot to reveal with further refined measures</text>

                <text>This study investigates the interplay between online and face-to-face (FtF) feedback on stress dur�ing an important life event. We present data on a two-month, six-wave longitudinal study of 468 Chilean adolescents across three important stages of a competitive national university selection test (Prueba de Seleccio´n Universitaria [PSU]) to assess longitudinal and reciprocal relationships. Random intercept cross-lagged panel models (RI-CLPM) showed that online feedback had a small effect in decreasing stress during the three short-termed waves, before and after the three main events of the test: test taking, test scores, and final selection. No intrapersonal effects were found for FtF feedback on stress, and vice versa. At the interpersonal level, only feedback variables were related. Results suggest that prosocial replies on social media may slightly help to downregulate stress from important life events at the intrapersonal level, an effect which appears to be short�lived (e.g., only a few days), rather than long-lived (e.g., three weeks).</text>
