<text>Background Available studies showed that antidepressants (ATDs) and antipsychotics are most frequently associated with adverse effects (AEs),
which account for ~90% of all AEs in the psychiatry department. These AEs can range from mild to serious or potentially lethal events and pose
a significant threat to the physical and mental well-being of patients leading to decreased quality of life, reduced drug adherence, and increased
healthcare costs.
Objective This study aimed to assess the prevalence of self-reported ATD-related AEs among patients attending the psychiatric outpatient
department (OPD) at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital (TASH), Ethiopia, and examine current monitoring practices and corrective measures
undertaken.
Method A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted in the psychiatric OPD of TASH from 1 April 2023 to 30 May 2023. Descriptive
analysis was done to summarize the quantitative data. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify predictors of occurrence of
ATD-related AEs.
Results The overall prevalence of self-reported ATD-related AEs was 51.3%. The two most reported classes of ATDs were selective serotonin
reuptake inhibitors (52.8%) and tricyclic ATDs (47.2%). Across all the utilized ATDs, sedation (46.2%), dry mouth (31.4%), constipation (21.8%),
and sexual dysfunction (18.6%) were the most frequently exhibited AEs. Alas, roughly 60.3% of patients have never been asked by healthcare
providers about their AEs. When AEs occurred, only 21.2% of patients consulted healthcare professionals for genuine guidance and support. Old
age (odds ratio (OR) = 2.84, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.09–7.40), duration of treatment of >1 year (OR= 2.17, 95% CI 1.07–4.43), daily ingestion
of more than five pills (OR= 3.82, 95% CI 0.99–14.76), presence of asthma (OR= 3.45, 95% CI 1.02–11.68), and taking other psychotropic agents
(OR= 2.92, 95% CI 1.40–6.07) were significantly associated with the occurrence of ATD-related AEs.
Conclusion This study unveiled a high prevalence of AEs among patients taking ATDs. Advanced age, long treatment duration, daily ingestion
of more than five pills, presence of asthma, and taking other psychotropic medications were predictors of ATD-related AE occurrence.</text>

<text>Background Compliance with Patients’ Rights by nurses is a crucial determinant of how well healthcare services are provided. Nurses are
responsible for upholding Patients’ Rights because they spend so much time with patients. Therefore, it is essential to continuously assess
nurses’ compliance with Patients’ Rights in healthcare institutions.
Objectives To outline the breadth and type of existing research on nurses’ compliance with Patients’ Rights as well as to pinpoint any gaps in
the body of existing knowledge.
Methods A scoping review search was done in six electronic databases. For eligibility, articles written in English and focusing on nurses’
compliance with Patients’ Rights in South Africa (SA) were checked and evaluated. Data were taken from eligible study materials in order to
compile, evaluate the quality, summarize, and create a narrative summary of the results.
Results The literature collected was 1158 records from six data bases, after deleting 239 duplicates, 919 records remained. A total of 891 records
were excluded using title and abstract of the studies. Fifteen articles were included in the final analysis. Four articles were quantitative studies,
ten qualitative and one a mixed method. The included studies focused on six Patients’ Rights listed in the Patients’ Rights Charter, which consist
of 12 Patients’ Rights.
Conclusion Nurses’ compliance with Patients’ Rights is inconsistent and there are limited studies on nurses’ compliance with all Patients’ Rights
in SA. More studies are required in future, as seen by the included studies’ inconsistent findings</text>

<text>patient health outcomes. Evaluating the patient safety culture enables the health care organizations to gain insights into how their internal
system’s structure and processes impact the patient’s overall well-being. In this paper, the Hospital Survey On Patient Safety (HSOPS) that is
adopted from Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) was used to examine the patient safety culture in the Primary Health Care
Corporation in Qatar (PHCC), allowing for a better understanding of areas of strength and areas that require improvements.
Objectives: The aim of this study is to identify factors that contribute to a positive patient safety culture within PHCC Qatar utilizing the AHRQ
HSOPS. Additionally, the study explores the barriers to enhancing the culture through qualitative data and evaluate its impact on health outcomes
and care quality.
Method: The study aimed at comparing the organization’s safety culture in 2021 and its improvement in 2023. The survey was disseminated
into 28 primary health centers with different sizes and patient volumes. The survey was sent electronically to all PHCC staff, allowing for better
convenience and higher response rate.
Results: The results of this survey revealed numerous areas of strength, including teamwork across departments, error reporting, management
support, communication error, non-punitive response to errors and staffing. On the other side, survey composites such as continuous learning
and teamwork within department were identified as areas for improvement.
Conclusion: By allowing for better insights into the culture of safety and identifying areas of strength and weaknesses, PHCC can make informed
decisions and implement effective interventions. This will support in enhancing the health and wellbeing of Qatar’s population that aligns with
the national health strategies, which improves the overall health care in the region.</text>
