<text>Background: Diabetes distress refers to the emotional and psychological burden
experienced by individuals in managing their condition, which can influence
physiological outcomes and overall well-being. However, the relationship between
HbA1c, insulin growth factor-I (IGF-I), and insulin-like growth factor binding
protein-3 (IGFBP-3) with diabetes distress in diabetic patients remains elusive.
Purpose: The objective of this study was to evaluate the association of IGF-I,
IGFBP-3, and HbA1c with diabetes distress in diabetic patients.
Methods: A cross-sectional design with purposive sampling was used to recruit
subjects from the public health center in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi,
Indonesia, from May to November 2021. A total of 30 diabetic patients were
recruited for the study. Distress data were collected using the Indonesian version
of the Diabetes Distress Scale (DDS) questionnaire. HbA1c levels were measured
using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Serum levels of IGF-I
and IGFBP-3 were measured using the ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent
Assay) kit method. The data were analyzed using regression analysis.
Results: Most respondents had moderate distress, with a DDS score of 53.4%, a
high IGF-I level of 76.7%, and a low IGFBP-3 level of 76.7%. As many as 60% of
respondents had an HbA1c level above 6.4%. IGF-I (ρ-value=0.024) and IGFBP-3
levels (ρ-value=0.042) showed a significant correlation with diabetes distress.

However, HbA1c levels did not significantly correlate with diabetes distress (ρ-
value=0.155).

Conclusion: IGF-I and IGFBP-3 levels were associated with diabetes distress, but
HbA1c was not. Patients with higher distress were found to have elevated serum
levels of IGF-I and IGFBP-3. Future research should focus on stress management
strategies that support efforts to prevent disease and complications associated with
diabetes mellitus.</text>

<text>Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a global health problem with an
increasing prevalence. Most related studies focus on Diabetes Self-Management
(DSM) in urban populations or general contexts, leaving a gap in understanding the
specific factors affecting DSM among rural T2DM patients. Therefore, there is
limited understanding of the factors that influence DSM in rural T2DM patients.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate DSM in rural T2DM patients and its
associated factors
Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional design. The samples involved 146
patients with T2DM from the community health center in Ogan Komering Ulu
Regency, Indonesia, selected using a simple random sampling technique. Diabetes
Knowledge Questionnaire (DKQ), Diabetes Management Self-Efficacy Scale

(DMSES), Hensarling Diabetes Family Support Scale (HDFSS), and Diabetes Self-
Management Instrument (DSMI) were used for data collection. The t-test, ANOVA,

Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression were used to analyze the data.
Results: The study found a significant relationship between gender (p=0.001),
knowledge (p=0.001), self-efficacy (p=0.001), and family support (p=0.032) with
DSM in rural T2DM patients. However, the multiple regression analysis revealed
that self-efficacy (β=0.392, p=0.001), gender (β=0.283, p=0.001), and duration of
DM (β=-0.189, p=0.012) significantly affected DSM in patients with T2DM in rural
areas, explaining 28 percent of the variance (R2=0.280).
Conclusion: The results indicated a significant relationship between gender,
knowledge, self-efficacy, and family support with DSM in T2DM patients in rural
areas, with self-efficacy being the most dominant factor affecting DSM. This study
recommends that community nurses can play a pivotal role in designing and
implementing interventions enhancing self-efficacy. Additionally, the involvement
of PROLANIS, collaborating with key community figures, is crucial to increasing</text>

<text>Background: Chemotherapy is the primary treatment for breast cancer to prevent
cancer progression, but health protocols, such as social distancing during the
COVID-19 pandemic, hinder timely treatment. Although many qualitative studies
have investigated the experiences of breast cancer patients during the COVID-19
pandemic, few have explored the coping strategies of women undergoing
chemotherapy during this time.
Purpose: This study explored the coping strategies of women with breast cancer
undergoing chemotherapy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: A qualitative phenomenological design was employed to explore the
experiences of women living with breast cancer and their coping mechanisms.
Purposive sampling was used to recruit participants who met the following criteria:
(1) women diagnosed with breast cancer who had chosen to undergo chemotherapy
and (2) women attending chemotherapy sessions at the treatment center. Patients
with a history of severe chemotherapy side effects were excluded from the study.
Data were collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews with 25
participants, and transcripts were analyzed using thematic analysis.
Results: Four key themes emerged from the data analysis, including (1) feeling the
uncertainty of life, (2) emotional turbulence, (3) surviving under pressure, and (4)
accepting the situation. Participants demonstrated positive adaptive coping
strategies to manage the challenges of breast cancer and chemotherapy during the
COVID-19 pandemic.
Conclusion: Surviving and accepting conditions were identified as vital coping
mechanisms that help women with breast cancer maintain their quality of life during
the COVID-19 pandemic. These strategies play a crucial role in maintaining mental
well-being amid uncertain and stressful circumstances.</text>

<text>Background: Fatigue is a common and distressing symptom among patients with
chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis, significantly impacting
their daily functioning and quality of life. Despite its prevalence, the contributing
factors to fatigue remain unclear and underexplored in specific populations.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify factors associated with fatigue among CKD
patients undergoing hemodialysis.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in two hemodialysis centers. A
total of 164 patients were recruited using convenience sampling, with sample size
determined through power analysis. Data were collected using the FACIT-Fatigue
Scale, a health literacy questionnaire, and an observation sheet for hemoglobin
(Hb), blood pressure, and interdialytic weight gain (IDWG). Patient characteristics
were also recorded. T-tests and ANOVA were used to examine differences in fatigue
levels across groups, while Spearman correlation and multiple linear regression
were employed to analyze associations between fatigue and clinical variables.
Results: The mean fatigue score was 28.23(SD=7.46). Fatigue was significantly
associated with age, education level, employment status, comorbidities, duration of
hemodialysis, systolic blood pressure, HB, IDWG, and health literacy (p<0.05).
Multiple linear regression identified employment status and hemoglobin levels as
the strongest predictors of fatigue.
Conclusion: Fatigue is a prevalent issue among CKD patients undergoing
hemodialysis and is influenced by a range of demographic, clinical, and behavioral
factors. Employment status and hemoglobin levels were the most significant
contributors. Interventions promoting physical activity, a healthy diet, and fluid
adherence, alongside routine monitoring of hemoglobin levels, may help reduce
fatigue and improve quality of life in this population.</text>

<text>Background: Mental health issues, nutritional status, physical activity, and
smoking behavior are among the most serious health problems among school-aged
children, and they are closely linked to health-related behaviors. Literacy skills
significantly influence these behaviors at this age; however, health literacy often
receives insufficient attention from the government for this age group.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide a comprehensive overview of
health asset profiles and health literacy among elementary school-aged children.
Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 431 sixth-grade students from the
Sumedang district, recruited through a cluster sampling method. Various research
instruments were employed, including the Family Affluence Scale (FAS III),
Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), Health Behaviours in School-Aged Children
(HBSC), European Health Literacy Scale (HLS-EU), and the Newest Vital Sign
(NVS) survey. Data were self-reported by participants, and BMI measurements were
also collected. The Chi-square test was employed for statistical analysis.
Results: The results revealed notable variations across the assessed health asset
profile sub-variables. Functional health literacy was significantly associated with
self-esteem (p<0.001), student behavior (p=0.010), wake-up time (p<0.001), and
smoking habit (p<0.001). In contrast, no significant associations were found with
family affluence (p=0.868), BMI (p=0.809), physical activity (p=0.087), or bedtime
(p=0.092). Gender-based comparisons revealed significant differences between
boys and girls in self-esteem (p=0.042), BMI(p<0.001), physical activity (p<0.001),
bedtime (p=0.004), wake-up time (p=0.005), and smoking behavior (p=0.001).
Conclusion: This study provides a comprehensive overview of health literacy in
school-aged children, highlighting variations across health-related behaviors and
asset profiles. Significant gender disparities were found in self-esteem, nutritional
status, physical activity, bedtime, wake-up time, and smoking behavior. These
findings highlight the importance of developing gender-sensitive health promotion
strategies to enhance health literacy and promote healthy behaviors from early ages.</text>

<text>Background: As the global need to address the care of elderly patients with
dementia continues to rise, various health care systems have adopted different
approaches to uphold the highest form of dignity, respect, autonomy, and
preferences of their patients. One such approach is Person-Centered Care (PCC),
which has shown benefits in improving the quality of life for elderly patients with
dementia and their caregivers. However, despite its recognized benefits, PCC faces
implementation challenges and is not widely adopted in some health care settings,
as its effectiveness in challenging scenarios remains unclear. Additionally, limited
research exists focusing on the experiences and challenges encountered by home
health care nurses in these cases.
Purpose: The primary aim of this study was to identify and describe the challenges
faced by home health care nurses in implementing PCC, specifically for elderly
patients with dementia.
Methods: The study utilized Husserl’s transcendental phenomenology method.
The participants included home health care nurses currently working with patients
who had been medically diagnosed with dementia for at least six months. Sixteen
participants were selected through purposive sampling. The nurses underwent
thorough face-to-face interviews with the researchers. Inductive thematic analysis
by Braun and Clarke was used to pragmatically organize the lived experiences.
Results: Upon data interpretation, the study revealed two major themes, namely:
personal challenges with two sub-themes, (1) communication barriers and (2)
limited training; and external challenges with two sub-themes; (1) powerlessness in
decision making and (2) uncooperative patients.
Conclusion: The study highlights the various challenges faced by home health care
nurses in implementing PCC for elderly patients with dementia. To improve nurses’
capability to manage these challenges, support through education and training,
policy development, and stakeholder involvement is essential to enhance the care
delivery process.</text>

<text>Background: Deworming is a key public health intervention, especially in contexts
where intestinal parasitic infections are prevalent and affect vulnerable populations
lacking basic sanitation services. Despite the global burden of parasitic infections in
early childhood, local data on knowledge and practices related to parasitosis and
deworming in Colombia remain limited.
Purpose: This study aimed to assess mothers’ knowledge and practices regarding
deworming in children aged 2 to 5 years.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 324 mothers
selected using convenience sampling. The KP-1 questionnaire on knowledge and
practices related to deworming was used to collect data. Chi-square and Fisher’s
exact tests were used to establish associations between knowledge, practices, and
demographic characteristics, with a significance level of p<0.05.
Results: Most mothers exhibited regular (39.8%) or poor (37.3%) knowledge, while
62.3% reported good deworming practices. Statistically significant associations
were found between maternal knowledge and education level (p=0.0110), income
(p=0.0010), housing type (p=0.0007), and social security affiliation (p=0.0013).
Deworming practices were also significantly associated with education level
(p=0.0114), income (p=0.0012), housing type (p=0.0009), and social security
(p=0.0011). No significant associations were observed between knowledge levels
and deworming practice with age, marital status, occupation, religion, child’s age,
or gender (p>0.05).
Conclusion: Although mothers demonstrated good deworming practices, their
knowledge levels were generally regular or poor. Education level, income, housing
conditions, and social security coverage significantly influenced both knowledge and
practices. These findings highlight the need for community nursing interventions
aimed at improving maternal awareness and education on deworming practices.</text>

<text>Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a non-communicable disease (NCD) with
a high morbidity rate and is the third leading cause of death in Indonesia. Some risk
factors are associated with the risk of DM; yet, little is known about the effect of such
factors on the occurrence of DM in an urban worker population.
Purpose: This study aimed to examine the impact of some risk factors on the
occurrence of DM among workers in urban areas of Indonesia.
Methods: The study used secondary health status data obtained from the 2018
Basic Health Research by the Research and Development Agency, Ministry of
Health, Republic of Indonesia, using a cross-sectional approach. The participants
consisted of 15,745 urban working adults aged 15-64 years, whose blood glucose
levels were examined. The correlation between variables was analyzed using a
multivariate logistic regression test.
Results: This study showed that 14.8% of DM patients had hypertension, and
14.9% were obese. The percentage of women with diabetes increased with age,
particularly affecting informal workers more frequently. Hypertension (aOR=1.76;
95%CI: 1.56-1.99), central obesity (aOR=1.75; 95%CI: 1.54-1.98), daily smoking
(aOR=0.63; 95%CI: 0.53-0.76), and age (aOR=8.9; 95%CI: 5.3-15.7) were identified
as significant factors contributing to the risk of DM. However, education, physical
activity, the consumption of fruits and vegetables, and employment had no
discernible impact.
Conclusion: Hypertension, obesity, daily smoking, and age were associated with
an increased risk of DM in urban workers. The study recommends that companies
collaborate with Posbindu for NCDs to check blood pressure and blood sugar levels
regularly, and to measure the height and weight of workers periodically.</text>

<text>Background: Malaria remains a major public health concern in eastern Indonesia,
with East Nusa Tenggara Province ranking second in national malaria endemicity.
In this region, East Sumba Regency is among the highest-burden districts, where
school-aged children (5–14 years) account for 42.9% of reported cases and 2–3 new
infections are recorded daily. Despite this high burden, limited research has
examined how parental roles and environmental conditions contribute to malaria
incidence in this vulnerable age group. Understanding these factors is critical for
informing targeted prevention strategies.
Purpose: This study aimed to examine the relationship between parental roles and
environmental conditions with the incidence of malaria among school-aged children
in East Sumba Regency, Indonesia.
Methods: A cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted in January 2022
involving 120 school-aged children (grades 5 and 6) from an area in East Sumba
Regency, selected through total sampling. Data were collected using validated,
modified questionnaires measuring parental involvement and environmental
conditions related to malaria risks. Descriptive statistics were used for univariate
analysis, and Pearson’s Chi-square test was applied for bivariate analysis.
Results: Among the respondents, 43 children (35.8%) had a history of malaria,
while 77 (64.2%) had never experienced it. Poor parental roles were reported by
42.5% of participants, and 57.5% lived in substandard environmental conditions.
Significant associations were found between parental roles (p=0.020) and
environmental conditions (p=0.018) with the incidence of malaria.
Conclusion: Parental roles and environmental conditions are significantly
associated with the incidence of malaria among school-aged children in East Sumba.
Strengthening parental involvement and improving environmental health can be
effective strategies for reducing malaria transmission in endemic settings.</text>
