Perkembangan teknologi yang berjalan begitu cepat tentunya dapat mempengaruhi kehidupan generasi Z. Teknologi saat ini memiliki dampak negatif bagi kehidupan manusia. Tujuan: Menggambarkan beberapa hasil penelitian tentang penggunaan media social dan kesehatan mental generasi Z. Metode: Metode yang digunakan dalam penulisan ini adalah review literatur yang merupakan metode secara sistematis, eksplisit dan reprodusibel untuk melakukan identifikasi, evaluasi dan sintesis terhadap karya - karya hasil penelitian dan hasil pemikiran yang sudah dihasilkan oleh para peneliti dan praktisi. Hasil: Durasi penggunaan media sosial ternyata berpengaruh terhadap kesehatan mental. Zhao & Zhou (2020) menyatakan penggunaan media sosial yang lebih tinggi dikaitkan dengan kesehatan mental yang lebih buruk. Penelitian seperti Bashir & Bhat (2017) mengemukakan beberapa masalah mental illness yang berkaitan dengan penggunaan media sosial diantaranya stress, kecemasan, depresi dan kesepian. Penelitian Heri dkk (2021) terdapat korelasi positif antara intensitas penggunaan media sosial dengan tingkat stress. American College Health Association (2011) menemukan sekitar 30% mahasiswa melaporkan merasa depresi akibat penggunaan media sosial. Penelitian di Wuhan, Cina pada tahun 2020 oleh Gao, menunjukkan dampak penggunaan media sosial terhadap kesehatan mental dengan ditemukannya prevalensi depresi 48%, kecemasan 23%, serta kombinasi depresi dan kecemasan 18%.
