This study aims to provide an overview of the development of the digital economy in Indonesia and analyze the challenges and problems faced. The method used is a literature review covering the latest developments in the digital economy and a review of
previous research results. The digital economy in Indonesia shows high-speed growth, and the value will reach US$ 44 billion in 2021. In 2025 the deal is estimated to reach US$ 124 billion or around Rp 1,744 trillion. In addition, the digital economy contributes to employment and economic growth. Based on the characteristics of the digital economy and the problems faced, the recommendations proposed are: 1) Improvement of supporting infrastructure for the digital economy that is more inclusive and in favour of economically vulnerable communities; 2) Management of the tax sector in favour of digital economy players due to the enormous prospect of the digital economy; 3) Consumer protection and socialization of rights as well as complaints and settlement procedures, 4) E-commerce penetration for people who have not been reached due to
geographic and demographic structures, fragile communities; 5) Changes in business models and 6) standardization of logistics services.
