Students Working While Studying, Self-Regulated Learning, Academic Stress
Description
Self-Regulated Learning is a structured study habit among students that enables them to use effective
learning strategies to achieve better outcomes, thereby reducing the academic stress experienced by
students. Academic stress refers to stress related to learning activities that often occurs during the
learning process, caused by academic demands arising during students' study periods. The purpose of
this study is to determine the relationship between Self-Regulated Learning and academic stress among
students who work while studying at universities in Karawang Regency. This research employs a
quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. Sampling was conducted using proportional random
sampling techniques, resulting in a sample of 80 respondents. The instrument used was a valid and
reliable questionnaire. The results showed that 43 students (53.8%) had good Self-Regulated Learning,
which is not significantly different from the 37 students (46.3%) who had poor Self-Regulated Learning.
Similarly, 41 students (51.3%) experienced low academic stress (not stressed), which is not significantly
different from the 39 students (48.8%) who experienced high academic stress (stressed). The Chi-Square
test yielded a p-value of 0.000 > 0.05 α, indicating a significant relationship between Self-Regulated
Learning and academic stress among students who work while studying in Karawang Regency. The odds
ratio (OR) was found to be 170.6 > 1, meaning that students with poor Self-Regulated Learning are 170.6
times more likely to experience academic stress compared to those with good Self-Regulated Learning.
This study suggests that it can serve as a reference for improving self-management strategies among
students, especially those studying while working in Karawang Regency, thus helping them to reduce the
pressures faced from academic and work responsibilities and maintain a positive mindset and enthusiasm
in managing both.
