Description
Head injuries are one of the leading causes of death globally. Each year, 1.2 million people die due to
head injuries. Patients with head injuries experience headaches, ineffective breathing patterns, and
potential ineffective cerebral perfusion. The management of mild head injuries can be pharmacological,
using medications, and non-pharmacological. One intervention that can be used to control hypertension
is acupressure therapy, which is beneficial in reducing pain. A 22-year-old patient, a university student,
reported complaints of headaches with a blood pressure (BP) of 110/90 mmHg, a pulse of 95 beats per
minute, respiratory rate (RR) of 22 breaths per minute, SpO2 of 97%, and a pain scale of 5. Acupressure
intervention was performed twice, each session lasting 20 minutes, by applying pressure to specific
points to reduce pain. This acupressure therapy is particularly effective for mild pain, especially in
patients with mild head injuries or other head injury patients. Observations before and after the
acupressure therapy showed a reduction in the pain scale from 5 to 2. It can be concluded that
acupressure therapy increases relaxation in patients, making them calmer and reducing the pain they
experienced.
