Description

Critically ill patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) are mostly dying,
experiencing multi-organ failure, using ventilators and requiring technological support.
One of the important things that must be considered is the fulfillment of nutritional needs
to release ventilator dependence, accelerate healing and shorten the length of
hospitalization. The Gravity Drip method is a method of providing enteral nutrition with
the help of gravity carried out above the height of the stomach with the speed of
administration determined by gravity. Gravity Drip is a method of providing enteral
nutrition with a syringe connected to the gastric tube at a speed following the force of
gravity given 4-6 times a day for 5-10 minutes. Performed to the patient attached ETT and
Ventilator mode ASV100 PEEP 5 fiO2 50% VTE428 and NGT size 16. The results of
monitoring the volume of gastric residues before and after enteral nutrition obtained an
average of 3-3.8 ml of gastric residues. This enteral nutrition with the gravity drip method
in combination with head up 30o can be a reference in fulfilling nutrients and can reduce
gastric residual volume and prevent the risk of aspiration in critical patients, especially
those installed on ventilators.
