Description

Edema is a condition where veins become congested. Edema occurs due to an increase in intravascular
hydrostatic pressure, which is the pressure that drives blood flow within the vessels due to the heart's
pumping action, causing plasma fluid to seep into the interstitial space. One of the nursing interventions
for managing edema is leg elevation to improve venous and lymphatic flow from the legs. Elevating the
legs to 30° is an effective technique to reduce swelling by enhancing lymphatic fluid drainage and
decreasing capillary fluid distribution in patients with Congestive Heart Failure and edema.
