EFEKTIFITAS FOOT MASSAGE TERHADAP TEKANAN DARAH PADA PASIEN DENGAN CEDERA KEPALA SEDANG DAN RIWAYAT HIPERTENSI: CASE REPORT
Subject
foot massage; head injury; blood pressure.
Description
In addition to the level of consciousness and the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), it is important to monitor blood
pressure in patients with head injuries, including both hypertension and hypotension. Foot massage is an
intervention that provides vasodilation effects on blood vessels, which can help reduce blood pressure. The
purpose of this article is to explore the effectiveness of foot massage on blood pressure in patients with moderate
head injuries and a history of hypertension. The patient is a 34-year-old female with a moderate head injury,
presenting with a headache and an elevated blood pressure of 164/94 mmHg. The patient exhibited apathetic
consciousness, restlessness, and had difficulty understanding language and forming words during
communication. Given the priority of addressing the patient's elevated blood pressure, the author chose foot
massage as an intervention to reduce blood pressure. The intervention involved a 20-minute foot massage, which
resulted in a decrease in the patient's blood pressure by 10-20 mmHg. The patient's response to the foot massage
was very positive; she became relaxed, more comfortable, and even fell asleep, snoring. Foot massage proved to
be very effective in reducing blood pressure, suggesting that it could be a valuable complementary therapy option
for managing blood pressure in patients with head injuries.
