Background: Pomade is a hairstyling product made from oily ingredients or wax. Results of a
preliminary study involving 19 male students showed that 14 used pomade and five did not. It
also revealed that five pomade users had dull, dandruff, dry hair, four had black hair, clean
and oily while five non-pomade users had black, clean, shiny, and not oily hair. Objective:
This study aims to determine the relationship between pomade use and hair health among
male students. Methodology: This was a quantitative research design with analytical
observational methods using simple random sampling techniques. A total of 79 respondents
were included, and data analysis was conducted using the chi-square statistical test. Results:
This research showed that 70.9% of respondents were pomade users while 29.1% of them were
non-pomade users, 58.2% had unhealthy hair and 41.8% had healthy hair. The test results
show a significance value of p=0.004 (<0.05) indicating a weak positive correlation (0.009).
Conclusion: This research demonstrates a relationship between pomade use and hair health
among male students with a positive level of closeness.
