Background: Emotional Intelligence is an individual's ability to manage their life such as maintaining their
emotions, awareness of control, motivation, empathy, and social skills within themselves. Initial studies show that
there are still nurses who do not care about their teammates while working, and documentation of nursing care
is carried out properly. Objective: to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and the role of
nurses in providing nursing care in Private Hospitals in Yogyakarta. Method: This study uses quantitative
correlation with a cross-sectional approach. Analysis using the Spearman rank test and is declared to have passed
ethical clearance. The population was 32 nurse respondents who performed the role of providing nursing care,
data collection using the total sampling technique. This study used a questionnaire as a measuring instrument.
Results and Discussion: There is a relationship between emotional intelligence and the role of nurses in providing
nursing care in private hospitals in Yogyakarta with a P-value of 0.009 <0.05. Emotional intelligence in providing
nursing care is very important. Nurses must be able to control emotions, understand patients through empathy
and interact well with patients in the role of nurses and coworkers. Conclusion: There is a relationship between
emotional intelligence and the role of nurses in providing nursing care in private hospitals in Yogyakarta.
Suggestion: Further researchers can conduct research on other factors that influence the role of nurses in
providing nursing care.
