Description
Background: Obesity is being overweight compared to the ideal body weight caused by the accumulation of excess body fat tissue. Consuming fiber and anthocyanins can help reduce waist circumference and Body Mass Index by lowering body fat levels. Fermented black glutinous rice snack bar is one of the cereals with antioxidants, bioactive compounds, and fiber. Research purposesto determine the effect of giving black glutinous rice and black rice snack bars on the decrease in waist circumference and Body Mass Index in obese adults in Cililin District, West Bandung Regency. Method :The experimental research design used two groups pre and post test with control experimental design.
The population is adult male and female (25-50 years old) in Kidang Panajung Village, Cililin District,
West Bandung Regency. The number of samples is 24 people in each group. The study was conducted
for 30 days. Results and Discussion : The intervention group was given 1 piece of fermented black
glutinous rice tape (25 grams) and low-calorie diet educationi. The control group was givenlow calorie
diet education. Statistical test with Paired T Test showed that there were significant differences in waist
circumference and Body Mass Index at the beginning and end of the study (p<0.001). The mean
reduction in waist circumference in the intervention group was 6.93 cm, with a standard deviation of
4.17 cm. The median reduction in waist circumference was 6.55 cm with a minimum value of -1.60 cm
and a maximum of 16.70 cm. The mean decrease in Body Mass Index in the intervention group was 0.68
kg/m2, with a standard deviation of 0.46 kg/m2. The median decrease in Body Mass Index was 0.59
kg/m2 with a minimum value of -0.64 kg/m2 and a maximum of 1.59 kg/m2. The mean reduction in
waist circumference in the control group was 3.17 cm, with a standard deviation of 4.73 cm. The median
reduction in waist circumference was 2.25 cm with a minimum value of -4.40 cm and a maximum of
11.40 cm. The average decrease in Body Mass Index in the control group was 0.26 kg/m2, with a
standard deviation of 0.64 kg/m2. The median decrease in Body Mass Index was 0.17 kg/m2 with a
minimum value of -0.64 kg/m2 and a maximum of 1.59 kg/m2. There was a significant difference in
the mean waist circumference and Body Mass Index at the beginning and end of the study in the
intervention group with a value (p<0.001).There is an effect of giving snack bar tape black glutinous rice
and black rice to decrease waist circumference with a value (p = 0.005). There is an effect of giving snack
bar tape black glutinous rice and black rice to the decrease in Body Mass Index with a value of (p <
0.030). Conclusion: Statistical test with Mann-Whitney showed that there was an effect of giving black
glutinous rice snack bar to decrease waist circumference and Body Mass Index (p=0.005) and (p<0.030).
It is necessary to socialize about black sticky rice tape as an alternative food to reduce waist
circumference and Body Mass Index.
