Description
The peel of Dragon fruit can be used to test the quality of formaldehyde, but it is not effective, because it uses direct extracts and unknown what the minimum levels of formaldehyde that can be read. Formalin test will be more effective using tester kits, such as a paper or tissue indicators, so it is expected to produce indicators that are stable, easy and accurate. This study aims to determine the best formalin media tester kit (whatmann paper or wet tissue) from peel extract of red dragon fruit and applied in tofu samples. This research is a quasi-experimental study.
Sample was a whatman paper and wet tissue saturated with peel extract of red dragon fruit and 25 tofu from the Traditional Markets in Tanjungpinang. The results showed that the whatman indicator paper detected formalin from concentration 50% and stable for 1 day, while wet tissue detected formalin from concentration 10% and stable for 3 days at room temperature, 6 days at cold temperatures. Iindicator wet tissue is the best medium for detecting formalin, but its less stable compared to commercial test kits. It is recommended the research about storage methode for stability of wet tissues indicator.
