Description
Schistosomiasis remains the global health problem that infected more than 230 million people worldwide. In Indonesia, the Central Sulawesi Province is the only one province where this endemic parasite can be developed, including in Lindu Plateau. This study aimed to explore the sociocultural determinants of Schistosomiasis in Lindu Plateau, since most of the previous study focused on the medical factors. Totally 82 respondents joined this study who come from 2 groups (case and control) with the same proportion. The sample has been selected by using simple
random sampling. The statistic test has been done to examine the univariate, bivariate (Chi-square test), and multivariate (binary logistic regression) by using SPPS software. The finding of this study revealed that income level, use of poor water sources, habit of passing focus area, and habit of activity in the river are the determinants of Schistosomiasis after adjusted to all independent variables. The social and culture factors mentioned before are the behavior in the community and made the trend. The prevention and control are needed to decrease the Schistosomiasis transmission.
