Implementation of Preceptorship and Mentorship Clinical Learning Method in Providing Nursing Care at Ungaran General Hospital

Description
Background: When the COVID-19 pandemic forced university campuses and healthcare agencies to temporarily suspend both undergraduate and graduate direct care educational experiences, nursing programs had to formulate alternative plans to facilitate clinical learning.
Problem: With the growth of online programs, one area of concern is the need for Clinical Instructor s who are prepared to teach online.
Aim: Preparing online clinical learning through online preceptorship and mentorship training at Ungaran General Hospital.Approach: A mentorship and preceptorship for online teaching was developed to give student the opportunity to develop nursing competencies in the online environment. This training uses blended learning method through preceptorship learning method training, with pre and post-test, lecture, simulation, roleplay, training evaluation, and clinical guidance assistance for the preceptorship method.
Result: Participants in the preceptor learning method were 90% female, and as many as 100 % had profession degree. The knowledge of trainees before the training was 56 with SD 10,611 and after training, it was 78 with an increase of SD 10, 960. This result shows an increase in knowledge after receiving training.
Conclusions: online and offline training of online Preceptorship and mentorship had a significant difference in knowledge before and after training. The mentorship option provides improved educator role preparation for nursing students who will teach online. It also provides informal mentorship as well as an unexpected perceived value in higher education to students in undergraduate nursing program.
