Description

Background: Preoperative anxiety is an anticipatory response to an experience that the
patient may perceive as a threat to his or her role in life, body integrity, or even life itself.
Anxiety can be overcome by using relaxation techniques, one of which is progressive
muscle relaxation, because it can suppress the sympathetic nerves which can reciprocally
suppress the feeling of tension experienced by the individual, resulting in counter
conditioning (elimination). Main Symptoms: tense appearance, difficulty sleeping,
trembling voice, cold sweat on both palms and feet, frequent urination, Hamilton Anxiety
Rating Scale (HARS): 17. Therapeutic intervention: Progressive muscle relaxation therapy
with 14 movements carried out for 20 minutes. Outcome: Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale

speech is clear without shaking, No cold sweat on palms and feet, blood pressure
measurement 120/70 mmHg. Conclusion: Anxiety can be overcome by using progressive
muscle relaxation techniques.
