Description

Background: The Special Region of Yogyakarta is one of the areas in Indonesia with the potential
for tectonic earthquakes, based on historical records of earthquakes that have occurred above
5.9 on the Richter scale. The lack of adequate facilities such as evacuation routes, counseling and
socialization has not been held so that the level of preparedness in the RT 40 RW 09 community
of Gedongkiwo Village is in the less prepared category. Objective: Knowing the description of
the level of earthquake disaster preparedness in the community in RT 40 RW 09, Gedongkiwo,
Mantrijeron, Yogyakarta 2023. Method: Quantitative descriptive with a cross sectional
approach. Using purposive sampling technique obtained 38 respondents. The research measuring
instrument used a questionnaire from LIPI-UNESCO/ISDR (2006) which had been tested by
researchers. Result: Characteristics of respondents based on the highest number for ages 36-45
years 28.9%, male gender 63.2%, upper secondary education 65.8%, respondents who work as
much as 52.6%. The results of the analysis, most people are in the category of less preparedness
with a percentage of 97.4%. Conclusion: The description of the level of preparedness in facing
earthquake disasters in the community of RT 40 RW 09 Gedongkiwo Village, Mantrijeron
Subdistrict, Yogyakarta in 2023 is in the category of less preparedness. Suggestion: Education
related to the five parameters needs to be provided to the community to improve earthquake
preparedness.
