PEMBERIAN PETROLEUM JELLY PADA PASIEN CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE DENGAN PRURITUS YANG MENJALANI HEMODIALISA DI RS BETHESDA YOGYAKARTA
Subject
Gagal ginjal kronik - hemodialisa – petroleum jelly – pruritus
Description
Background: Chronic kidney failure or chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a problem faced
globally. According to a report from the united stases renal disease data system (USRDS),
the prevalence of chronic kidney failure increases by 20-25% every year, with around
100,000 new patients every year (Septiyanti, 2021). Pruritus is one of the forms of
discomfort experienced by GGK patients due to uremic toxins (Asri & Zuryati, 2018).
Petroleum jelly is considered an emollient and occlusion ointment that softens and
smoothes the skin, helps to replace the oil that prevents transdermal water loss (TEWL)
from the skin, making it ideal for dry skin. Main Symptoms: Patients with chronic kidney
failure experience complications, namely uremic pruritus which appears due to urea
buildup and fluid withdrawal during hamodialysis. Terpeutik Intervention: Giving
petroleum jelly for 8 days with application which is done 2 times a day in the morning and
evening after taking a shower. Conclusion: Petroleum jelly is able to lower the pruritus
scale in chronic kidney failure patients who undergo hemodylysis.
