Description
Background: One of the external factors that can cause skin integrity disorders is bed rest. The condition
of long bed rest or immobility will cause the consequences of the skin to be suppressed which can change
the formation of soft tissue in the area of bone protrusions, the risk of decubitus. Bed rest for a long time
causes physiological changes in the patient's body system, one of which is the changes that occur in the
integumentary system, namely the appearance of pressure sores. Patients admitted to the Intensive Care
Unit (ICU) are mostly bedridden for long periods of time and often experience complications such as
increased blood coagulopathy, constipation, depression, decubitus ulcers, weak bones and muscles.
Thus non-pharmacological measures by performing effluerage massage have the effect of improving
blood circulation, so that oxygen supply can be fulfilled to prevent pressure sores. Main Symptoms: The
skin in the pressure area is reddish, moist, decreased sensation, and increased temperature. Therapeutic
Intervention: Effleurage massage with virgin coconut oil for 5 minutes for three consecutive days. The
massage technique is that the palm of the hand is in direct contact with the body part being massaged
and the fingers can adjust to the area being massaged. Conclusion: There is an increase in the Braden
Scale after effleurage massage nursing action with virgin coconut oil on reducing the risk of pressure
sores on the back and sacrum area.
