ISOMETRIC HANDGRIP EXERCISE PADA PASIEN CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE YANG MENJALANI HEMODIALISIS DENGAN HIPERTENSI : STUDI KASUS
Subject
Renal failure; Hypertension; Isometric handgrip exercise
Description
The prevalence of chronic kidney failure in Indonesia according to RISKESDAS in 2023 reached 2%
or increased by 1.62% compared to 2018. One of the problems faced by patients due to kidney failure
is hypertension which can affect the development of kidney failure, chronic heart disease, and death.
One of the non-pharmacological therapies used to lower blood pressure in patients on hemodialysis
is isometric handgrip exercise. Isometric handgrip exercise is an exercise to contract the hand muscles
statically which widens the blood vessels so that blood circulation is smooth and blood pressure
decreases. This scientific paper uses a descriptive approach with a case report design. The subjects in
this case report are chronic kidney failure patients undergoing hemodialysis with hypertension. The
intervention carried out was isometric handgrip exercise. The assessment was carried out by
measuring blood pressure pre and post intervention on the first day and the fifth day. The results of
the five-day intervention showed a decrease in systolic blood pressure of 13 mmHg and diastolic 4
mmHg on the first day and a decrease in systolic pressure of 23 mmHg and diastolic 2 mmHg on the
fifth day. Isometric handgrip exercise is effectively applied to chronic kidney failure patients with
hypertension undergoing hemodialysis, so it can be applied in hospitals as an independent nursing
intervention for chronic kidney failure patients with hypertension.
